Great Choruses:  Yanks and Brits
Description: "The concert, 'Great Choruses: Yanks and Brits,' will feature music from America and Great Britain. The 85-voice combined FLC day and evening choirs and the debut of the new FLC Chamber Singers will highlight several centuries of choral music from American and British folk music to the evening's featured work, English composer John Rutter's large 17-minute choral piece, Gloria. The work is dedicated to Mel Olsen who introduced the young composer to America. Olsen served as the Minister of Music for many years at Fremont Presbyterian Church which is located across from Sac State. Along with Rutter's Gloria, the combined choirs will celebrate with several Afro-American composers including William Dawson and Moses Hogan.

"The evening will also introduce a new choral ensemble to the FLC community with the debut of the FLC Chamber Singers. The ensemble will perform works by American composers Gail Kubik, Carole King, and British composer Thomas Ford, and the multi-movement 'Choral Dances' from Gloriana by Benjamin Britten. Gloriana was composed for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1952.

"The evening's guest ensemble will feature Folsom High School's Chamber Singers under the direction of Ginger Ekroth. The Folsom High School Chamber Singers is an award-winning choral group of 38 auditioned students. They have performed nationally from Hawaii to Seattle to New York City. This year they will be traveling to Southern California to compete in the Worldstrides Heritage Music Festival in Anaheim."
